It is a blessing to live in this valley:

The residents of Salmo and Area G never cease to amaze me and how we all come together when help is needed.

May 30, 2020 brought in a storm to our valley such as we have not seen for a very long time. With all the rain to follow we found ourselves in an evacuation alert. Erie Creek and the Salmo River were on the rise!

May 31, 2020 initiated an evacuation order. Our volunteer fire fighters got geared up, Civic Works and Village staff came back to work, and citizens’ that are physically capable showed up to help protect people’s property and deliver evacuation orders.  Thank you to anyone that started that protection for themselves prior to this event happening. Even though the skies cleared up, the work continued. Water has once again showed us how powerful it can be.

We all watched as the water has receded in the last week, but we must stay vigilant.

Please be careful beside any bank of water as you may not be aware of the cracking in the bank that may have taken place during the rushing water. Places may still sluff into the water.

Thank you to every person involved in protecting whomever or whatever. Your presence did not go unnoticed.

Stay safe and be healthy,

Mayor Lockwood
