NOTICE OF ELECTION BY VOTING

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY given to the electors of the Village of Salmo that an election by voting is necessary to elect one Mayor and four Councillors, and that the persons nominated as candidates and for whom votes will be received are:

VOTING DATES AND LOCATIONS

GENERAL VOTING day shall be open to qualified Electors of the Village of Salmo on:

Saturday, October 20, 2018 – between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm
Salmo Valley Youth & Community Centre
206 Seventh Avenue, Salmo, B.C.

 ADVANCE VOTING will be available to qualified Electors as follows:

Wednesday, October 10, 2018 – 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
Salmo Valley Youth & Community Centre
206 Seventh Avenue, Salmo, B.C.

ELECTOR REGISTRATION

If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place. To register you must meet the following qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Canadian citizen
  • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
  • resident of OR registered owner of real property in the Village of Salmo for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration, and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

 To register, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

The following documents may be accepted as evidence for this purpose:

  • British Columbia driver’s licence.
  • British Columbia identification card issued by the Motor Vehicle Branch.
  • Owner’s certificate of insurance and vehicle licence issued by ICBC.
  • British Columbia Carecard or Gold Carecard.
  • Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security request for continued assistance form SDES8.
  • Social Insurance card issued by Human Resources Development Canada.
  • Citizenship Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
  • Real property tax notice issued under section 369 of the Local Government Act or Section 21 of the Taxation (Rural Area) Act.
  • Credit card or debit card issued by a savings institution.
  • Utility bill issued for the supply of electricity, natural gas, water, telephone services or coaxial cable services.

At the Presiding Election Official’s discretion, other forms of identification may be accepted if they prove identity or residency.

To register, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owner(s).
