The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is embarking on a region-wide community planning project to study how the RDCK can better meet the needs of its residents. The project’s focus area covers the entire RDCK and the following partnering municipalities: Castlegar, Creston, Kaslo, Nakusp, Nelson, Salmo and Slocan. This project aims to integrate and build upon the region’s various municipal and electoral area planning initiatives to ensure a cohesive approach to regional planning while supporting and strengthening distinct community identities. It will do so by identifying areas to protect the region’s natural, rural, and agricultural characteristics and other areas where new housing, transportation, infrastructure and community services may be focused. It will also help determine what types of community services are suitable in a rural context and how they might differ from community services in a more municipal context.
