Proposed updates to Village of Salmo’s website page: https://salmo.ca/columbia-basin-trust-broadband/

High‑speed fibre is coming to Salmo

Columbia Basin Trust is currently in the permitting stage for the fibre‑to‑home build in Salmo. Construction cannot begin until these permits are finalized.

What residents need to know right now

  • The Trust is responsible for building the fibre network in Salmo as part of the Connect the Basin project. Internet service providers (ISPs) will deliver retail internet services once the network is operational.
  • The project footprint is fixed based on federal funding requirements which are areas receiving less than 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload (50/10). The footprint shown on the eligibility map will not be expanded under this project. See the map here.
  • The Trust (or its contractors) will contact eligible households directly when it is time to request permission for a fibre drop to the home. We are not yet at that stage.
  • After the fibre is built, the network will be operated on an open-access basis by CityWest. This means different ISPs may choose to offer services to residents.
  • Stay tuned for any further updates about fibre improvements in the community.
