Home of the Salmo Dinner Jacket, flat, family-friendly Salmo is an attractive, safe, environmentally friendly, mountain valley village. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes, Salmo offers residents and visitors the best of the outdoor lifestyle in a small, vibrant, economically prosperous community. As the “Hub of the Kootenays” we are a short commute from Nelson, Castlegar, Fruitvale, Trail and Creston and the many natural amenities the Kootenays have to offer. Incredible fishing and world class cross-country skiing locations surround us as well as two fantastic ski resorts, Whitewater and Red Mountain, are just a short drive away, plus the Salmo Ski Hill located just outside of the Village.
Forget nearby cities and the coast, our housing prices are modest and our amenities fantastic! Salmo has a daycare centre, an elementary school and a gorgeous high school. We feature a large community centre with a fitness centre, outdoor pool, the Salmo ski hill, basketball, tennis and pickleball courts, a curling rink, a campground, two large parks with ball diamonds in the village, an outdoor skating rink, walking trails and a nearby golf course. The Village center features the famous Dragonfly Café, the Salmo Hotel and a library, a museum, a brewery, pharmacy, hardware store, two grocery stores and other enjoyable shopping experiences.
Protecting and promoting Salmo’s natural and cultural heritage resources in the Salmo Valley corridor is key to Salmo’s development and future sustainability. The Village is working hard to revitalize its infrastructure, conserve the environment, adapt to climate change, while promoting the growth of economic opportunity and long-term sustainability. We are supporting the needs of year-round residents while focusing on attracting day and longer-term visitors to local outdoor recreational activities, special events, shopping, dining and overnight accommodation. Salmo is a special place to live and work or visit.
Come and visit. You’ll want to come back to stay!
